The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas. It was there that I took my first art class taught by Mrs. Akers, the wife of a colleague of my father, at Rice University. I was four and happy to be accompanied by my mother to each class.
Everyone has an artist inside of them and the artist inside of me has been activated ever since I can remember.
I applied, and was accepted, to the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston. A humbling experience, all of the art students in the program were extremely artistic. It opened my eyes! There are so many talented people in the world.
I forged on. If you love something, you study it. After receiving my B.A. in Art from the University of St. Thomas, I attained a teaching certificate. Teaching art to children was mind boggling. They have so much creativity! Eventually, I started my own business doing murals and decorative painting. And now it is rendering paintings.
My art reflects the colors of growing up in the Southwest. Moving to Kentucky over ten years ago has caused me to be influenced by the beauty of the seasons. I ran into another artist who had been in the same high school as I. She said she also felt intimidated by an environment consisting of the creme de la creme. Now I realize, it is style that defines a creator, and the love and passion one feels inside will be reflected in one’s creation(s). That is what matters…
